Our purpose is to create the ultimate coffee experience in every life we touch. Each step on the long road from tree to cup gives us an opportunity to create better coffee, and a better world.Partnering with coffee communitiesOur work in coffee-growing communities improves the quality of life for farmers, and ensures a long-term supply of high-quality coffee for our customers. Supporting local communitiesWe want to make things better at home, too. We have been donating time, coffee, and money to nonprofits in our neighborhood communities since 1981. Protecting the environmentWe continue taking steps to reduce our environmental impact. We began by composting leftover coffee grounds from our first retail store. A few years later, we developed dioxin-free, Earth Friendly™ Coffee Filters and biodegradable scooping bags for bulk coffee. We purchase carbon offsets to make our operations and transportation 100% greenhouse gas neutral. And now, our “tree-to-cup” approach to protecting the environment includes the cup itself. Our eco-friendly cups are easier on the earth. While most paper cups are made with petroleum products to make them waterproof, ours uses corn — a 100% natural and renewable resource. Creating a great place to workWe reject “business as usual” and choose, instead, business with a purpose. We offer generous benefits and pay all full-time employees a livable wage. In 2007 we ranked first on the list of “100 Best Corporate Citizens”— for the second year in a row. We’ve been called one of the “Best Medium Companies to work for in America” by the Great Places to Work Institute. Promoting sustainable coffeeWe are doing our best to raise awareness of sustainable coffee, and create “consumer activists” who will demand it. Working together for changeThere’s no limit to what we can achieve when we work together. We look for business and nonprofit partners who share our values so we can support each other in reaching common goals.
